Nicola Holt

Hi, my name is Nicola Holt, and I am so pleased to be joining the Network.  I am excited to be a part of developing my new role as WellChild Tracheostomy Specialist Nurse  creating a tracheostomy service and supporting our children and young people, and their families, in their journey. My role is based within Birmingham Childrens Hospital where i work 30 hr/week with an additional 7.5 hrs  dedicated to the network

My plan for this role is to create a service that offers quality education and support to all CYP who require tracheostomies, improving their experience and wherever possible reducing both their initial hospital stay and repeat admissions. I will be supporting the development of tracheostomy services across the west midlands  hospitals with the aim to provide services for our patients close to their homes.

I have been a paediatric nurse for over 20 years, of which most has been spent working with Paediatric Intensive care unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, with the last 4 years being dedicated to our CYP requiring long term intensive care treatments. I also have experience in working in the community with CYP requiring long-term ventilation.

Outside of my work life I have a wonderful family. I am mom to 2 teenagers and ‘dog-mom’ to 3! I am a Girlguiding volunteer, as a leader in our local Rainbows unit and a volunteer first aider for my sons rugby team. I am always up for a challenge and love cycling, hiking and all kinds of crafts.
