About Us

The West Midlands Paediatric Critical Care Network (PCCN) acts as a partnership across all organisations providing care for children requiring critical care support within the West Midlands.

Critical care for children in the West Midlands is provided by two Paediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs) at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Staffordshire Children's Hospital at Royal Stoke.  11 non-PICU hospitals throughout the West Midlands provide a range of high-dependency care for children, and work with both PICUs and the Transport Service - Kids Intensive Care & Decision Support and Neonatal Transport Service (KIDSNTS), to ensure the pathway for children requiring critical care is both safe and of high quality.

The PCCN has several working groups that drive the network’s delivery and development of the agreed objectives and work plans. More details on each of the working groups can be found here.
