Support for Parents and Families

Edward's Trust

  • Support bereaved parents, children and young people through counselling, support groups, play therapy, wellbeing therapy and social events. Have a host of resources and information on grief and other support services available. 

4Louis

4Louis 

  • Provides memory boxes, including Ibraheem’s gift which are the Muslim bereavement packs.
  • Can support with fundraising for things like cuddle cots and blankets if needed. 

2Wish

2Wish 

  • Provide support to anyone affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under. They offer immediate support and memory boxes, as well as ongoing support through counselling, play therapy, complementary therapy, focus support groups and support events. 

Winston's Wish

  • A charity that supports grieving children, young people and those that care for them.
  • Have a wealth of resources of books and online resources, including for use by schools.
  • Helpline to support a young person who is finding it hard to cope with their grief or an adult who needs help supporting a grieving child. Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm. 

Child Bereavement UK

  • Supports children and young people (up to age 25) when someone important to them has died, or is not expected to live, and parents and wider family when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying.
  • Offer bereavement support and a helpline, and their website hosts a wide range of information and resources. 

A Child of Mine

  • Provides emotional and practical support to bereaved parents and families.
  • Offer confidential peer support, information and guidance for any family who has lost a child.
  • For families in Staffordshire, can provide 1:1 emotional peer support, group sessions and small financial grants. Also offer sibling support. 
  • Can also provide telephone and email support, or signposting to other local organisations, to families outside of Staffordshire. 

Child of Jannah

  • Supports bereaved parents, and their approach is founded upon Islamic principles. 
  • Offer a specialist helpline, supportive group sessions and a host of helpful and informative resources created for bereaved parents. 

React

React 

  • Helps families care for children who are diagnosed with an illness that is life-threatening. 
  • They support with funding of basic, essential needs, such as specialist medical equipment, or educational or sensory equipment. They will also consider requests for essential homecare items, travel and subsistence costs and end-of-life costs. 
  • They offer the opportunity to take a one-week respite week a year at one of their five mobile homes. 

The Harvey Hext Trust

  • Supports bereaved children by supplying bespoken, personalised, durable wooden Memory Boxes and Memory Bears as a legacy to their brothers and sisters’ lives. 

Cruse Bereavement Support 

  • Offer a helpline, 1:1 support with grief specialists if needed, and a mailing list to receive regular emails with support.
  • Children and young people can be referred to their services for grief support, including specialist support. They also have a range of resources for supporting children and young people.
  • Hope Again is designed by young people dealing with grief containing videos and resources for children and young people. 

Sands

Sands 

  • Provide emotional support and information from the early hours after a baby’s death through the years ahead to anyone affected by the death of a baby. Offer a helpline, online community, Sands Groups and a Bereavement Support Book. 

Bliss

  • Offers a wide range of services for families of premature and sick babies, including through email, video call and cot-side support. 
  • Have a host of information on further support, including mental health, financial support and other local organisations. 

Take Our Hand

  • Provides support to young people aged 16-25 with bereavement and grief. 

Guy's Gift

  • Although mainly focused on supporting school professionals, they have resources that may be of use to support bereaved children, along with the wider family too. 
  • Based in Coventry and Warwickshire. 

The Compassionate Friends

  • Offer support and information to bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents. 

The Laura Centre

  • Provide families with grief support for those living in Leicestershire and Rutland.
  • Can provide counselling for adults, support for children and young people, and also provide support for anticipated loss. 

Freddie's Wish

  • Provide bereavement support for parents who have lost of baby or child of any age, including from conception. Offer immediate short-term bereavement support for those who have been bereaved for less than two years, or specialist bereavement counselling for parents who have been bereaved for more than 2 years.
