GENERAL PAEDIATRIC SURGERY (GPS)

This is a new group for the SIC Network launching in March 2024.

The GPS Working Group is being established to support service improvements for children who require a general paediatric or urology surgical procedure across our region.

The group will review national standards and recommendations for these procedures and help to ensure that hospitals across the West Midlands can deliver them.

The network aims to ensure that services provided across the region are high quality, patient-focused, and continue to improve to meet the needs of our patients.

Clinicians and managers from hospitals across the West Midlands come together to discuss patient pathways and to agree on priority areas that they can work collaboratively on to improve the experience for children and their families.

Priorities

The priorities for all the clinical working groups are agreed by the SIC steering group members. The priorities include ensuring that regional practice aligns to national standards, identifying and attempting to address regional variation in practice, and collaboration to ensure continuous service development at both a local and regional level. Over-arching priorities are set annually and are reviewed regularly at group meetings. The group will annually review its progress against their agreed priorities, and report back to the Surgery in Children Steering Group.
